What Is Travel? What Does It Mean To Me?
What is travel?
Most of us would agree that travel is unlike any other experience one can get from life. So, what makes it so appealing? It is our innate nature as humans to seek new experiences, well mostly for pleasure. We like pushing our boundaries if it fulfils something deeper in us such as our inherent need for adventure and curiosity.
Many say, travel makes you wise and it surely does. Going places, meeting people and experiencing new cultures is by far the best way to know how the world works. It often changes your perspective of the world and adds new dimensions to your own thinking. Each time I travel, I have come back with new learnings that get recorded in my book called life. Travel is experiential as it gives you the opportunity to see, think, wonder, smell, touch, feel, and taste things first hand.
“Don’t listen to what they say. Go see.”
Many ask what the purpose of travel is. I’d say some travel looking to escape, some for fun, some for money, some for adventure and challenges and some in search of something or someone. Whatever the reason might be, travel in one way or the other teaches you lessons of life. These small bytes of learning come by even before you begin your actual journey- the part where you have to choose your destination, the route, the itinerary, the budget etc.
Travel helps you discover yourself, find things about you that you didn’t know existed. It tests your limits and builds endurance for challenges in life. Travel makes you tough, fearless and confident as a person.
What does it mean to me?
Travel to me is like a new life; in a new place, having new experiences, making new connections, experiencing new cultures and gaining new insights. It means everything to me; even the thought of it is rejuvenating. It has always been close to my heart as it transports me to a new realm in my mind.
Should it be planned or spontaneous? Well, I think traveling can be a lot of fun when there is no fixed itinerary. Of course, this also requires basic planning as you definitely need to know your starting point. I would highly recommend each one of you to experience free flowing travel as it is liberating in many ways. Not having a fixed agenda breaks the monotony of the daily routine, stimulates the mind in different ways and brings renewed energy to do the things. It helps you to be in the present and makes every breath count.
“Travel opens your heart, broadens your mind and fills your life with stories to tell.”
It’s true. I believe that every memory or experience whether good or bad can make a good story. It’s how you look at it. I love reading travelogues and imagining what people have gone through. Listening to others stories gives you the confidence to explore it your way.
So, in my opinion, travel is the most highly rated life experience that everyone must have. Make sure it’s part of your life curriculum.
Get ready to drift away to a new life!
